I never planned to write such lengthy books, but there are so many plot threads - and so many characters - that it always turns out that way. It may seem like it’s shorter, but only because my publisher’s design team adjusted some of the formatting because they were worried that if the spine got much thicker, pages might fall out. Once again, I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn’t read it, so I’ll just say that she can do some incredible things, but she also definitely needs the help of her powerful friends, who each have unique abilities of their own. But as the series goes on, she discovers other abilities. Sophie is caught in the middle of all of that, and when we meet her in book one, she’s a telepath - meaning she can read minds. But there are cracks in the system, and those injustices have triggered both good and bad rebellions. ![]() And the people can do things that seem like magic - though for them it’s simply part of their nature.
